When version 0.80 came out, It stopped decompiling maps with some custom parameters in them. If it's protected then the author did that so you can't decompile it. You can try decompiling it with an old version of VMEX, but it will screw up every brush.
Also, VMEX is not made so you can decompile a map to edit it and make it "more interesting", it is made so you can see if it has a specific entity in it, to see how something it's made, or other things like that. Before editing the Stargate maps, you should first ask the author for permision, or to start your own map.
